Vicky Russell
Loveland, Colorado Using her mixed media approach with alcohol inks, water soluble markers and watercolor on Yupo Paper, Canvas and other non-porous materials, Vicky tries to bring depth and vitality to her images. She strives to get viewers emotionally involved, their memory released by familiar and distant times. Her strong sense of design and abstract structure invites the observer into the painting. Attention to detail is very important, whether she is painting plein air or in her studio. Her impressionistic artwork reflects the dreamlike beauty of the Colorado high country.
"It is the freedom of exploration with mixed media that allows me to express my feelings about a subject. Watercolor provides a base of color and shapes. Pastel seems to develop a life of it's own. It is very immediate.
Having grown up and receiving my post graduate degree in Art Education, the small towns and mountains of Colorado have become some of my favorite subjects to paint. When I am not sharing my knowledge and love for painting with others, I am traveling, learning, and finding wonderful new subjects to fall in love with. I hope you enjoy my work."
Growing up in the western states Vicky graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Colorado State University, with post graduate work in Art Education at the University of Northern Colorado. She lived in small mountain towns where she developed an intuitive sense for her subject matter, and now lives and works in Loveland.
