Kerry Brooks, KBP
Kerry Brooks

Kerry Brooks has been a potter since 1988. She learned to throw in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and has been working as a full-time studio potter in Minneapolis, Minnesota, since 1997. She works primarily in wheel-thrown, high-fired stoneware. Kerry’s pots are fired to about 2400 degrees in a natural gas kiln so pieces without fused glass can be used in the oven, microwave, and dishwasher.
Kerry's pottery stands out because of her unique designs combining fused glass and pottery to evoke a sense of the natural world. Pottery with fused glass is food safe in that it is not toxic in any way. However, that neat little crackle pattern is really a bunch of cracks and food particles may find their way into the cracks, leaving a stain or allowing bacteria to grow. Also, pieces of glass could break out of struck by a service utensil. Therefore the pieces are for dry foods only — at best — such as bread, cheese, crackers grapes, etc. They should be hand washed after use and really may be best used for decorative purposes only.
