Robert Rickard
Beacon, New York
Robert has been producing contemporary wall art and clocks for many years. He developed many of his distinctive designs and unique color palette while living in Taos, New Mexico. In 2012 he had his wife moved to the east coast to be near their children and grandchildren. Now, many of his colors are reminiscent of the sunsets in New York’s Hudson River Valley, which he sees from his studio in an 1870 textile mill.
Robert's is a scientific approach. After cutting his designs into the base metal, usually aluminum, each sculpture is then coated with other metals: typically copper, bronze, and iron. Each of these metals reacts differently to the chemical patinas and dye oxides with which the pieces are finished, creating a rich palette of hues. He creates memorable pieces which harness the myriad properties of metals: their rigidity, their pliability, and their essential chemical make-up.
