The Artist
Jeff Linenkugel was born and raised in Toledo Ohio and moved to Columbus to attend the Ohio State University, School of Architecture. The years spent there provided him with the opportunity to study in various regions of Italy and Spain. These trips exposed and expanded what already was a great fondness of art and architecture but experiencing the historic intertwining of art, sculpture and architecture, established a keen interest in bringing life to 3D concepts, whether it is a building environment or a wood sculpture.
The Process
Each wood sculpture uniquely displays bent wood slats delicately braided on a steel rod, atop a complimentary wood base. A clear finish exhibits the natural beauty and age of varied reclaimed and locally sourced species of wood. Some selections showcase various colored epoxy filling the natural imperfections of the wood. Some sculptures show a ribbon of aluminum for added interest or color. Black walnut, white walnut, yellow pine, old-growth pine, cedar, Kentucky coffee, cherry, Purple Heart, maple, and hickory have all been showcased in the sculpture series.
